Project grade 6: HOW I CAME INTO THIS WORLD.

Now you are going to use your notes from your conversations with your parents to make a flap bok about how you came into the world.

This worl will involve the following steps:

Note: you need to have at least ONE ultrasound photo (if their parents have one) and ONE newborn baby photo.

MY PARENTS.

Step 1:

1. What stage of life were your parents in when you were born?

2. How old were your parents when they met?

3. How old was your mom when she gave birth to you?

4. How did your parents find out they were pregnant?

PREGNANCY.

Step 2: 

1. Did your parents find out what sex you were while they were pregnant?

2. How many weeks were you when they found out:

a. they were pregnant?
b. what sex you were?

3. What special precautions did your mother take when she was pregnant?

ME IN THE WOMB.

Step 3:

1. What do your parents remember you doing in the womb?

2. Look at examples in Step 3 on page 56. Did your parents do any of these things to you?

3. Write one sentence describing your ultrasound photo (if you have it).

4. What parts of the body or organs can you see in the ultrasound? 

ME COMING INTO THE WORLD.

1. What time were you born?

I was born at 9:05 p.m. / 7:30 a.m.

2. How long did the birth last?

The birth took/lasted 1 hour.   

OR - 

My mom was in labor for 4 hours.

3. Were you born premature?

Yes, I was born 4 weeks premature.  

No, I was born on my due date. 

No, I was born 3 days after my due date.

4. Did you need special medical care after being born?

Yes, I needed oxygen. 

Yes, I needed to stay in the NICU. (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) (la UCIN) 

No, I didn't need any special medical care.

5. Describe the differences between your ultrasound photo and your baby photo
.

In my ultrasound photo, you can see my heart, lungs, and brain. 

In my baby photo you can see all my external body parts, my face, and my hair.

How I Came Into This World (2016). EXAMPLES.

For five weeks, 6ºD and 6ºC worked very hard on a project for their unit on reproduction in Natural Science. Here are the steps the students took to complete the project:

Step 1: Write questions in class to ask the parents at home.
Step 2: Interview their parents at home.
Step 3: Review questions in class and make corrections.
Step 4: Add information and pictures to a poster.

Here are some photos taken throughout the process. In the beginning, students recorded information in their notebooks. 

Students also brought in photos of their ultrasound, their parents, and themselves as babies.

The final results were fantastic!

Investigamos y experimentamos.

Las aulas de 6º durante estos días se han convertido en un espacio abierto donde alumnas y alumnos exponen, comparten sus experimentos y otras investigaciones hechas desde casa.
¿Quién ha dicho que la Ciencia es aburrida?.

 Algunos de ellos han grabado sus primeros pasos en la Física. Aquí tenéis una muestra

Talleres: "Ciencia Creativa".

Durante la semana del 16 al 20 de mayo, se llevaron a cabo unos talleres de Ciencias para trabajar conceptos relacionados con : la Luz, el Calor, la densidad, electricidad, magnetismo, electromagnetismo... Alguno de los experimentos se explicaron en inglés también. A continuación se pasó una encuesta para evaluar dicha experiencia. En general la valoración ha sido bastante positiva, aunque como todo, y al ser la primera experiencia llevada a cabo en nuestro centro, es mejorable en ciertos aspectos. Recogemos y agradecemos esas observaciones, todo lo que sea mejorar es bien recibido. Nos quedamos al final con lo más importante:
 DESPERTAR EN NUESTROS ALUMNAS Y ALUMNAS LA CURIOSIDAD Y EL INTERÉS POR LA FÍSICA  Y SU MEJOR COMPRENSIÓN FUERA DE LOS LIBROS.


Nuestro agradecimiento a las familias y profesorado del centro que sin ellos, hubiera sido imposible realizar dicha actividad.




Recogemos a continuación algunos momentos que ilustren el desarrollo de dichos talleres y las valoraciones y opiniones literales realizadas por los propios participantes.

 "Me gustaron mucho los talleres porque aprendí cómo hacer un electroimán, un caleidoscopio y un circuito eléctrico. Hemos aprendido también mucho sobre los imanes y la electricidad."

"Los chavales simpáticos y explicaban bien pero la organización no era muy buena. Por eso mismo quedaron por hacer dos".

Taller "Luz y Calor".

" El taller era interesante pero el experimento de la serpiente, me pareció aburrido pero por lo demás todo perfecto".

"Los talleres me han parecido bien, porque así aprendemos más, investigamos cosas y nos damos cuenta de cosas nuevas.  Además me ha gustado trabajar en grupo"
